How to Clean Baby Toys & More in Child Care Centers

Sanitizing Children's toys

Toddlers are amazing little people. They are also amazing germ spreaders and even better germ gatherers, as they put everything in their mouths. Because of their lack of hygiene, it’s up to you, as the childcare provider, to make sure your center is clean, providing them a safe place to thrive.

Since they put everything in their mouths, from their toys and books to their food, it only makes sense to start looking at non-hazardous ways to clean and sanitize. This will keep the children from ingesting harmful chemicals while at the same time, keeping them healthy by preventing the spread of illnesses.

One of the most effective non-toxic ways to clean is with electrochemically activated disinfect solutions. This all-natural way to sanitize and disinfect your childcare center is a better alternative for children to be around. Yet, it kills all those nasty germs you need to destroy. It can be used to disinfect all aspects of your daycare, from the toys to the restrooms, leaving you with a healthy environment for the kids to grow and thrive.

What Are Electrochemical Activated Solutions?

Electrochemically activated solutions work by providing a negative charge to a disinfecting solution. This charge causes the disinfectant to stick to your surface, killing pathogens and germs that are lurking in your daycare.

The science behind the solution is simple. High-purity salt and tap water are mixed together, and an electrical charge is applied. When the electricity flows through the salt and water mix, it breaks apart the molecules and forms two new ones: hypochlorous acid (HOCl), a disinfectant, and sodium hydroxide (NaOH), a cleaner.

Hypochlorous acid (HOCl) is a naturally occurring chemical that is used to fight bacteria in our bodies. It kills viruses, germs, and other pathogens, but because our bodies actually produce HOCl, it is safe for humans.

This product leaves you with a non-irritating way to disinfect your surroundings. It’s gentle enough that personal protective equipment (PPE), is not required when using the solution.

Hypochlorous Acid as a Disinfectant

It’s hard to believe something as safe as salt and water can be effective in killing the pathogens that make us ill, but hypochlorous acid has been proven effective against:

  • SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19)
  • Salmonella
  • Staphylococcus aureus
  • Poliovirus Type 1
  • Salmonella enterica

Because it is effective against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, it is included on the EPA List N: Disinfectants for Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Electrochemically activated solutions are some of the most effective ways to kill germs in your childcare center. The Pathopure and Pathonex cleaning combination, for instance, was created with commercial cleaning in mind. This product duo cleans and disinfects, keeping your employees and your daycare center’s children safe and healthy.

How to Clean Toys With Hypochlorous Acid

Knowing how to clean and disinfect toys in your child care center should be one of your top priorities. You already know those toys are headed straight back into a toddler’s grubby little hands and, ultimately, their mouths.

By cleaning toys with cleaners and disinfectants that are non-irritating and leave no residue, you’ll be keeping a lot of harsh chemicals away from the children.

  1. Clean the toys with a cleaning solution, such as Pathopure. You can either soak them in a tub of the solution or spray and wipe them each individually. This removes all the dirt and grime from the toys.
  2. Follow up with the Pathonex disinfectant. Spray the disinfectant on the toy and let it dry. Then rinse with water.

By spraying the toy with a disinfectant, you kill viruses, bacteria, and fungi.

Disinfecting your childcare center can be done both safely and effectively when using the right products. You work hard to keep the children in your care healthy and exposing them to harsh chemicals doesn’t work toward that end goal.
